Film Classification Approved
After approximately six months of filming, we have been preparing the movie for its screening. The film was submitted to the Eirin (Film Classification) Committee, and all evaluations have now been completed successfully. The film has been approved and classified in the MAX category, meaning it is suitable for all audiences.

We received valuable comments about radon and the film from two professors.
Radon Inhalation (Radiation Hormesis) for Immune Enhancement
Hitoshi Nakamura, Professor Emeritus, Osaka University / Director, Saito Tomohirokai Hospital
While high doses of radiation can have harmful effects on the body, low to very low doses have beneficial effects, a phenomenon known as radiation hormesis. In the past, radiation has been regarded as inherently dangerous and accumulating in the body over time, but recent studies have shown that this is a misconception. Consider that even highly toxic aconite can be used in small doses as traditional medicine, or that small amounts of ultraviolet light are essential for the human body—these facts make it clear why low-dose radiation can have positive effects.
Personally, as a radiation specialist for nearly 40 years, I have been exposed to low-dose radiation throughout my career. At 78 years old, I remain active in my profession, appear younger than my age, and continue to enjoy golf.
How Radon Inhalation Works:
Radon gas is absorbed through the alveoli in the lungs and circulated throughout the body. While it has multiple effects on the body, the most important is activation of immune cells. Strengthening the immune system reduces the risk of developing cancer and helps prevent recurrence after cancer treatment. For those already with cancer, it may help slow progression. Additionally, radon inhalation enhances antioxidant activity, providing benefits not only against cancer but also other lifestyle-related diseases.
Another benefit is that low-dose radiation revitalizes mitochondria, the energy powerhouses of cells, which contributes to overall vitality. Through apoptosis (programmed cell death), cancer cells are eliminated. Normally, we obtain small amounts of potassium-40 from potassium-rich foods such as vegetables and fruits (about 0.01% of total potassium), but dietary intake is often insufficient. Therefore, occasional low-dose radiation exposure can be beneficial.
Message Regarding the Production of the Film “Radon no Kiseki”
Sakuten Yamaoka, Professor Emeritus, Okayama University / Specially Appointed Professor
Radon hot springs have long been referred to as waters for health and longevity or medicinal baths, and have been used throughout history by people of all ages for treatment, symptom relief, prevention, and health promotion.
Regarding the verification of these health effects, the elucidation of their mechanisms, and their application in medicine and wellness, I have spent over 40 years conducting research—rare even on a global scale—focusing on how low-dose radiation from radon provides mild physiological stimulation, enhancing the body’s adaptability to the environment.
The Fusu no Sato tunnel radon bath is extremely rare, being one of only two such facilities in Europe and the only one in Japan. It is renowned for harnessing natural forces to provide health benefits. The high usage and positive feedback from visitors over the years attest to the vision and foresight of Chairman Yoshiaki Kamei and all those involved in its establishment and operation. Their contributions not only promote health but also serve as meaningful social contributions, for which I hold great respect.
The purpose of this film is to convey the unique value and charm of the Fusu no Sato tunnel radon bath to future generations and to encourage wider recognition, long-term preservation, and continued support. While radon hot springs have nearly a 1,000-year history, tunnel radon baths are less than 100 years old yet are recognized as a highly interesting therapeutic method with potential benefits that are still being explored. In this context, I believe this film is valuable and anticipate that it will reach a global audience.
